About

About me

I am a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma, advised by Prof. Doga Demirel. My research brings together artificial intelligence, robotics, visual SLAM, computer vision, and 3D perception to advance spatially grounded intelligence for safe autonomous and surgical robotic systems.

I investigate how robots localize, map their surroundings, and make decisions under perceptual uncertainty. I also explore interpretable evidence for surgical-video assessment, privacy-preserving mapping, and risk-aware autonomy. I completed my M.S. in Computer Science at OU in May 2026. Before joining OU, I developed research software for virtual learning environments, AI assistants, and cryptographic validation at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.

Academic journey

During my master’s studies at the University of Oklahoma, I worked in Prof. Golnaz Habibi’s lab on Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), optimization algorithms, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

At IISc, I contributed to government-funded projects including the Automatic Cryptographic Algorithm Validation System (ACAVS), a virtual physics laboratory, and a STEM education assistant built with BERT, AllenNLP, and IBM Watson. My work supported automated cryptographic validation and interactive STEM learning.

Broader interests

My broader interests span computer vision for autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, natural language processing, machine learning, and deep reinforcement learning. I am particularly interested in control and optimization of stochastic dynamic systems, reinforcement learning, and simulation optimization, alongside information security, malware detection, multi-party computation, and cryptography.

How I work

I connect theoretical research with practical applications in AI-driven robotics and cybersecurity. My work is guided by curiosity, initiative, and a commitment to continued learning across machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, robotics, computer vision, information security, and malware detection.

Beyond research

Outside research, I enjoy playing cricket, listening to soft music, writing poetry, cooking new dishes, and spending time in nature.

Current investigations and developed systems in robotic perception, trustworthy AI, and secure research infrastructure.

Risk-aware perception and navigation Research study

Uncertainty-Aware Visual SLAM

A visual-SLAM project using TurtleBot 4, OAK-D, RPLidar, ROS 2 Jazzy, and SLAM Toolbox. The study examines illumination, image blur, speed, surface disturbance, jerk, feature quality, inlier ratio, and tracking risk.

The labeled dataset contains 28,133 samples , with ROC-AUC 0.8813 and PR-AUC 0.9038 . The study evaluates adaptive speed, exposure, and gain; closed-loop control effectiveness remains to be established.

Privacy-preserving robot mapping Active research benchmark

PrivateMap-Bench

A privacy–utility benchmark for sharing indoor SLAM maps. It examines floor-plan, room-graph, trajectory, and routine leakage from robot maps and trajectories while measuring navigation utility.

The benchmark is under development, with a focus on quantifying privacy risks alongside navigation performance.

Explainable surgical-video intelligence Ongoing Ph.D. research direction

Surgical Skill Assessment

Exploring explainable AI for arthroscopic surgical-video skill assessment. The proposed “Agentic Evidence Tribunal” uses AI agents to locate, challenge, and verify video evidence before assigning a rubric-based skill score.

This ongoing research investigates how verifiable video evidence can support interpretable surgical skill assessment.

Autonomous indoor guidance Developed system

SMART-TourBot

An autonomous indoor guide robot integrating ROS, SLAM, semantic navigation, A* path planning, sensor fusion, reactive obstacle avoidance, finite-state execution, and human–robot interaction.

The project brings localization, planning, and interaction together for indoor guide-robot operation.

Applied AI and secure research infrastructure Earlier research · 2019–2023

AI assistants & cryptographic validation at IISc

Research at the Indian Institute of Science included a virtual physics laboratory and AI assistant using BERT, AllenNLP, and IBM Watson, alongside the Automatic Cryptographic Algorithm Validation System (ACAVS).

Contributions included DSA, ECDSA, and RSA validation and research infrastructure built with Java, MySQL, Linux, and Git/Bitbucket. Demonstrations and resources are available in the earlier projects below.

Intelligent Robotics

Implemented KIMERA to map the MiniCity environment and evaluated its SLAM performance and limitations under changing lighting conditions.

JetBot Path Following & Collision Avoidance

Trained a JetBot autonomous vehicle to follow a designated path using a collision-avoidance algorithm, then evaluated its performance in MiniCity.

Patient Assistant Database Network

Developed a Patient Assistant Database Network System using Azure to support efficient patient-record management and access.

Co-developed a web application for securely sharing private keys to establish an encrypted messaging channel.

AI & learning

National Design Innovation Network

Developed a virtual assistant for a restricted knowledge base supporting STEM experiments in virtual reality. The project was funded by India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Systems & security

Automated Cryptographic Algorithm Validation System

Developed automated validation code for DSA, ECDSA, RSA, KAS, and related cryptographic algorithms, and contributed to the CAVS frontend and backend. The project was funded by MeitY, Government of India.

Indoor Drone Navigation & Mapping

Investigated autonomous indoor drone navigation, focusing on path recognition and mapping building interiors.

AI & learning

Double Q-Learning for Mountain Car

Implemented Double Q-Learning for the Mountain Car reinforcement-learning task and investigated improvements to the algorithm’s learning rate.

Physical Model of Exponential Distribution

Developed a physical model to make the exponential distribution tangible and demonstrate its behavior.

MNIST Digit Recognition with CNNs, RNNs & LSTMs

Trained and evaluated CNN, RNN, and LSTM models for handwritten digit recognition on MNIST, and compared their results.

Nearest-Neighbor & K-Means Methods on Iris

Implemented nearest-neighbor, K-nearest-neighbor, and K-means methods using the Iris dataset from the UCI Machine Learning Repository.

Reliable Energy Balance Model for Wireless Sensor Networks

Extended my undergraduate minor project into a major research project, proposing and implementing an energy-balance model intended to improve the efficiency and reliability of the approach described in D. K. Lobiyal’s paper.

Fuzzy C-Means for Cluster-Head Selection

Implemented D. K. Lobiyal’s research on dynamic cluster-head selection using the Fuzzy C-Means algorithm in NetSim as my undergraduate minor project.

Trained a linear-regression-based machine-learning model to predict malignant or benign tumor types.
